The Millennium Countdown |
The Eiffel tower has served several times as a screen for presentations to the Parisians. In 1997, they fixed a large clock on its western front, conceived to count down the last 1000 days until the year 2000, the hours on the last day and finally the minutes. |

Finally - as always - shit happened: Two short blackouts in a row on New Year's Eve 1999 about five hours to midnight and the data was deleted. Sadly, they were unable to re-program the clock in time so that we had to party in front of a dark tower. |

But since then, the display is running again - however not counting. Now, it is just a reminder for the visitors about the present year: |
