The Millennium Countdown

The Eiffel tower has served several times as a screen for presentations to the Parisians. In 1997, they fixed a large clock on its western front, conceived to count down the last 1000 days until the year 2000, the hours on the last day and finally the minutes.

day 318
day 306
day 302 (the black spot in front is me)
day 300
day 288
day 4
day 3
day 2
day 1

Finally - as always - shit happened: Two short blackouts in a row on New Year's Eve 1999 about five hours to midnight and the data was deleted. Sadly, they were unable to re-program the clock in time so that we had to party in front of a dark tower.

five minutes to go
still three more minutes

But since then, the display is running again - however not counting. Now, it is just a reminder for the visitors about the present year:

 on January, 01st
as well as on May, 06th
